How To Get Back In Shape
Pedometers

One of the least expensive Health Investments you can make is a
Pedometer.
Wear a pedometer everyday. Log your steps, set new goals and enjoy
the improvements in your health, your weight, your looks and the way you feel. The pedometer is a good tool to help
you get started getting back in shape.

What is a
Pedometer?
Pedometers clip to your belt or waistband and
record each time you take a step. If you have trouble with your waistband, choose a pocket
model.

|
How Many Steps Should I Take each
Day?
The goal is to
walk at least 10,000 steps per
day (eventually).
OR after
taking a baseline of how many steps you average a day, set a goal to increase the number of steps you take by
10%, for example. So, if you start with 2000 steps per day, next weeks goals will be 2200 (2000 x.10 = 200 +
2000 = 2200).
Either way, you must log the number of steps you take each day
so that you can chart your progress. Print out our basic Activity Log to record your steps.
Choose a Pedometer
Pedometers for walking can be very basic and
inexpensive. They vary in price, features and accuracy.
|
Even though inexpensive pedometers may be inaccurate,
they can still serve their purpose to get you motivated,
logging your daily walking.
However, for under $25 you can get a fairly
accurate pedometer, the Omron HJ 112. The Omron HJ 112 is ideal for the robust waistline as it allows
you to attach it to your belt or carry it in your pocket or bag and still get an accurate
reading (+/- 5%).
The OmronHJ-720ITC cost a little more but allows
you to download your data directly to your computer to keep track automatically. Seeing your progress is a great motivator.
Choose a pedometer that makes sense for you and start getting
back in shape with each step you take.

can always get one for under $5, but you will
find that you’ll want to upgrade
